GPs Prescribing Mounjaro
Important Information About Mounjaro Prescribing for Obesity
Our local NHS commissioning board has introduced a process for prescribing Mounjaro for obesity via general practice. Initially, only a small number of patients will be eligible as part of this rollout.
Eligibility Criteria (brief overview):
Patients must be over 18 with a BMI over 40, and meet at least four of the following five conditions:
- Hypertension (requiring treatment)
- Raised cholesterol levels (requiring treatment)
- Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (requiring treatment)
- Type 2 Diabetes

We are currently reviewing patient records to identify those who meet these criteria. The specific details, including exact cholesterol levels, are outlined in the official guidance.
Please note: If you are eligible, you will be contacted directly by the practice to arrange a consultation. You do not need to contact us yourself at this stage. Mounjaro is an effective medication for weight loss, but demand is very high. The criteria for this NHS rollout differ from those used by NICE for broader obesity treatments, which include a larger group of patients in specialist clinics.
